Fairford Leys Res 3 - 6 Wendover Reserves

Fairford Leys did so well in this game until Wendover were reduced to 10 man and then it all went wrong!

Wendover took the lead against the run of play when Matt took a risk in letting their centre forward run through and appealing for offside. Unfortunatly behind him Chad had dropped 10 yards deeper and 2 men were actually left onside for a simple tap in. Fairford Leys were soon level when Tag floated a diagonal ball in to the box which met slid in to meet on six yards but the keeper cam out to meet him ad spread his body well to save, but the ball fell directly to Chris who played in Dom for a simple finish.

Wendover again took the lead when the defense pushed out to play offside on a through ball only to see Tag drop from the midfield to try and intercept the ball and play three men onside. To be fair he did win the ball but instead of clearing it for a corner tried to play his way out of danger lost possesion and handed Wendover back the lead. However Fairford Leys were again level within seconds of the kick off when a superb ball from Dom found Kieran cutting in to the right hand side of the box and he dispatched a great shot in to the roof of the net. This prompted a tactical change from Wendover with them bringing on a new sub at right back with only 20 minutes played, showing a lot of respect for the threat Kieran was showing. Half time 2-2.

Wendover again took the lead just minutes after half time when Ped saw a ball form a corner very late and only managed to divert it off is arm in to his own goal from 3 yards out. But once again Fairford Leys came from behind with James Ryan who was quiet up to this point, cutting in from the left and from a fairly acute angle finding a great finish in to the top of the net.

In a game that was littered with injuries for Wendover players thier center back got injured with 30 minutes to go, and having already made thre substitutions they were forced to finish the game with 10 men. What a great tactical change this proved to be and Wendover scored three goals in 5 minutes to put the game beyond the home team. All the goals were gifted to the opposition by mistakes from Paul and Matt the most comical of which being when a through ball hit matt square on the arse before hitting both his heels and flicking forward to play the striker in on goal.

3-3 with 30 minutes to go, and the opposition are reduced to 10 men what a chance! But we threw it away, perhaps by relaxing and expecting to go on and win the game, who knows? It now looks like the season is fizzling to an end and players are already looking at options for next season.

Starting XI: John, Chad, Shaun (Jordan), Matt, Tag, Youngy, Kieran, Ped (Paul Smees), James (Paul Hughes), Dom, Chris

Goals: Dom Stevens, James Ryan

Man of the match: John Virral

Wingrave Reserves 2 - 1 Fairford Leys Reserves

A late winner for Wingrave denied Fairford Leys what would have been a well deserved point. Fairford Leys worked extremly hard, especially Kieran and Tag in centre Mid to deny Wingrave the opportunity to play and created plenty of chances of thier own.

Wingrave took the lead in the first half when Matt tackled a player who was through on goal just inside the area only to see the ball roll straight in to the path of an oncoming unmarked striker who made no mistake in firing the ball past John. Fairford Leys almost equalised immediatly when Matts free kick following an offside decision just on half way released James in to the box but his shot was rather tame and straight at the keeper. James made up for it 5 minutes later following a through ball from Tag when he showed great strehgth to hold off a defender before lifting the ball over the guys head and volleying it home a al Gascoigne against Scotland in Euro 96.

Fairford Leys performed well in the second half but were destined for defeat when Wingraves number 5 connected with a corner to send a powerful header past John from 4 yards out with only minutes to go. Just after the goal Wingraves first goal scorer was racially abused by his own goal keeper casuing him to run 60 yards and punch his own keeper in the face. The keeper retaliated with a roundhouse kick and team mates had to seperate the two players. As the dust settled Fairford Leys players were astonished to see the ref take no action against either player! If this was not violent conduct or ungentemanly conduct or something then what exactly do you have to do to get a red card? In credit to our players no-one surrounded the ref asking for cards to be shown but perhaps this was because everyone was so sure the ref would have no choice bt to send them off. Despite spending the last 3 or 4 minutes camped in Wingraves half no equaliser could be found and the game ended in dissapointment.

However Matt Mark and Shaun played really well  as a back three, John made some outstanding saves, particularly in the first half to keep the game close. Kieran and Tag totally frustrated the oppostion players by preventing the time and room to play . Hughes did really well in his supporting the striker role and had several chances to score himself and James was outstanding in his lone role upfront and thoroughly deserved his goal.

Starting XI: (3,5,1,1) John, Matt, Shaun, Mark, Jordan, Kieran, Mark, Tag, Craig, Paul, James

Goals: James Ryan

Man of the match: Tag

Fairford Leys U11 6 Bedgrove Dynamos 2

This was the final game of the season for the boys and they finished in real style!  The boys were 4-0 up by half time due to some flowing football and excellent strikes.  The first from Jack B splitting the defence with his run and finishing well.  Rildwan followed this up with a cheeky poke home from close range.  Then Dan had two great strikes by turning the last defender and finishing.  The boys started the second half well with Jack G being on the end of a cross from Ellis.  The boys then relaxed a bit too much and let Bedgrove back in.  Oliver continued to keep out Bedgrove as they pressed for more goals.  Bedgrove got a second a few minutes from the end.  However, straight from the kick off Dan fed Jamie on the right.  Jamie sprinted towards goal and smashed home his shot from the edge of the box via the underside of the bar.  This was last play of the game.

This result means the boys finish in second place and can now look forward to Division 4 next season.  Well done to all, a great first season!

Bierton Reserves 2 - 1 Fairford Leys Reserves

I am not sure how we lost this game, all reports suggest that with the number of chances we created and were spurned by the forwards we should have been comfortably clear of Bierton. As it was Bierton took the lead before half time when John sliced a clearance which fell to a Bierton forward, a second of confusion between Mark and Shaun saw them collide allowing the forward to put Bierton 1-0 up. Midway through the second half it was 2-0 when a good chip from the Bierton right wing allowed the forward to nip ahead of Jordan and make it 2-0.

Ped then score a goal to seeming to make it 2-1 but ref Oli Jones dissallowed the goal after the lino flagged to say it had gone out of play before Ped scored. Rich then had to go off injured and Luke moved from up front, where he had been poor, to left wing and suddenly began to play. He closed down the keeper, nicked the ball of him and slotted home to make it 2-1 and that was how it finished.

Starting XI: John, Shaun, Mark, Rich (Paul H), Jordan, Ped, Tag, Lee D, Mikey, Chris, Luke

Goals: Luke

Man of Match: Ped, although Shaun deserves a mention too!
